NPH

What is it?

Normal pressure hydrocephalus, or NPH, is a progressive neurological condition that can affect patient's ability to walk.  It can also lead to progressive cognitive decline and issues with controlling one's ability to go to the bathroom.

How do you diagnose it?

NPH is diagnosed through a series of steps, usually an MRI and obtaining a sample of the spinal fluid.

How do you treat it?

A brain shunt is placed and connected to a magnetically- controlled valve that adjusts how much fluid is drained.

Neurosurgeons are specially trained to treat many forms of hydrocephalus and their expertise is key to getting the right options.
